In the beginning of 2006, after exploring different forms or art in my childhood and early adolescence, I started painting for the first time, and It became my primary means of art expression. My first series of paintings and collages are called The Sufferers and they display raw human emotions: pain, loneliness, desperation, hope, hopelessness, anger or depression. These series addresses issues such as, human madness, injustice, poverty, addiction, and youth hope and rebellion among others. My work here convey a message and I accomplish this, through facial and body expressions, position, color, hidden written words, and various mark making techniques.
Later on, the position and expression of the human form became the main feature of my work. My second series, Self Portraits reflect that fact and they address certain emotional states, along with the application of paint and capture of light. My intent of developing the background and creating a sort of active painting were equally crucial to the subject matter in the Self Portraits. During this stage of my short artistic career in painting, I have combined impressionistic style with a slight realism in my paintings.
Currently, I am still very interested in the human figure, in an impressionistic style with more vivacious colors. I am alternating my work on sculpture and painting, and my imagination plays a very determinant role in picking subjects for my art pieces. My place in contemporary art is not quite defined, as I am still trying to form a distinctive style. The majority of my paints at this point would show that I am an abstract expressionist artist who frequently integrates the human figure in her art. At times I apply intense abstraction intending to produce an effect of emotional sensation. In addition, I incorporate mix media and non-traditional materials in order to create narratives.
Recently, I have explored some sculpting, and although painting continues being my primary art medium, the sculpting experience had influenced my style enriching my painting pieces with an increased amount of three dimensional elements in it, using materials such as clay, wood, twine, paper, and metal between others.
In general, I like to reflect openly in my art: my culture, spirituality, generational and social issues. I am an intuitive artist who sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally conveys a strong message to the viewer. I might say that, although I am beginner, most of my art work fits the criteria of contemporary art.
